How to help

"What can I do to help?"

It's the No. 1 question I get from people (after "how do you feel?"), so I've tried to be thoughtful about giving an answer.

First of all, please pray. If you feel like you don't know what to say, take a look at the Model Prayer tab. My brother Bobby wrote a very heartfelt and comprehensive prayer that you can use not only in reference to me, but for anyone you know who is confronting health challenges. My friend Felicia Mason also wrote a prayer that I found very touching, and there are also two others.

People also ask what they can send me. So I put together an Amazon wish list for treatment supplies. Here's the link:

Thank you so much to those who have already sent me items. For a while, it felt like Christmas every time I opened the front door! I've modified the wish list to remove items I've already received, but I'll add others as need arises.

You can also send cards; I love setting them up and reading them again and again. Occasional texts are good, too. I will try to update this site at least once a week. (Thanks to my web designer brother Dave for patiently talking me through how to bring this site to life over many, many emails and phone calls.)

Please know that I am supported by fantastic people. In addition to my very own rock-star husband, I have a wonderful medical team, a phenomenal church (shout-out to Calvary Chapel Newport News), and an amazing "village" of family and friends and neighbors who stand ready to drop everything if needed. I'm not expecting that to be necessary, but it's comforting to know that I have that support.

Above all, I trust God. I have many anchor Scriptures -- Romans 8:38-39; Joshua 1:8; Isaiah 43:1; Phil. 4:6-7; Jer. 29:11 -- and many more that I'm discovering daily to help keep my mind stayed on Jesus. I believe God is going to bring me through this and He is going to get the glory, and I ask that you believe, too. That's the absolute best way you can help me.
